SatNav the Early Days

We all know and love our modern GPS, Satnav systems, small lightweight but powerful portable systems. But it wasn't always that way.....

I first installed navigation systems into our vehicles in the late 90's (98) separate hard drive or DVD units that were cabled to TFT screens with 2D mapping .
It was the year 2000 that one of the first portable navigation systems became available.

Looking for something in my garage today and what should come across.......

"On the Road to Katherine" Images through the Windscreen

Katherine is a town 3hour South of Darwin - Northern Territory - Australia.
Remote and a fair distance from Sydney but we needed to deliver the Health Clinic vehicles as soon as we could!

One we were running late & two, because we were running late it was starting to move into the onset of the "Wet" Season.

3560km (2212 miles) from our factory in Mt. Kuring-gai on the Northern outskirts of Sydney to Katherine - 3 days drive.  Which unfortunately left little time, to relax & enjoy this magnificent country.  Even less time to stop and take photographs.   So "On the Road to Katherine" Images through the Windscreen

Sure it's no Buick Centuries but ..... it's my daughters first car

After a few frustrating weeks, racing around, we have finally found the "right" car for one of my daughters - her first vehicle.
A one owner 2001 Holden (Opel) Astra - Hatch, with 80,000km (50,000ml).
A great car for her, just needed a good clean. Had it photographic early in this morning because once we cleaned it she was out for the day!

But as my son said "sure it's a nice car but it's no Golf"
